In a pre-match press conference, Jean-Louis Gasset, before the trip to Saint-Étienne, was asked about the 50th anniversary festivities and their impact on his group of players:
The 50 years of the club, we used what the current players were able to see. At the evening, they were at the last table like this season's generation, they were able to realize the importance of Montpellier. We saw all the generations trained at the club, starting from players who are between 60 and 70 years old today, the first players from the training who are between 50 and 60 years old, they saw the roots through small reports . They saw the emotion of coming together, they saw the solidarity. And as the veterans had almost all seen the match against Brest, it was a moving and very positive celebration, giving a lot of strength and courage for the rest of the season. […]
I try to make things positive. I hate people who are negative, for me, anything is possible and when I see the party we just had… Team photos were released to us, some players are no longer there, they have left and they were missing… So I'm not going to worry about a football match, they're no longer there even though they were my brothers. I am lucky to be in good health, to have the energy to succeed in one more mission. I will give everything, I guarantee it but it's 50 years, I want to congratulate the people who organized this event. It was magical, frankly. Magnificent emotionally and in content.
