OL sold already sick, Aulas sets things straight

Accused by certain supporters of having undermined the club even before the sale to John Texto, Jean-Michel Aulas wanted to defend his record on social networks.

The Rhone club is doing badly, even very badly, from a financial point of view. Last week, at the end of the DNCG mid-season hearing, the financial policeman of French football heavily sanctioned OL. The ban on recruiting, and the wage bill control that goes with it, will really bother 's leaders next January during the winter transfer window. But it is above all the threat of a descent to L2 which scares the most between Rhône and Saône. Demoted to Ligue 2 as a precautionary measure by the DNCG, Lyon will have to find between 100 and 200 million euros in the coming months to avoid free fall. If the difficult economic position of OL is not new, knowing that John Textor had already been slapped on the wrist last season, the current situation is critical.

“OL’s economic situation has always been exemplary”

But then whose fault is it? If the main culprit is necessarily Textor, knowing that it is he who has been steering the Lyon boat since 2023, Jean-Michel Aulas is also singled out by certain Lyon supporters for his involvement in the current slump. Accusations that the former president of OL does not really accept. “OL’s economic situation has always been exemplary. Cited as a reference to UEFA, the LFP and the DNCG, the stock market authority and always validated by its Statutory Auditors. The asset, both tangible and intangible, was exceptional”explained Aulas on financial goals.

On many occasions in the past, however, OL had been forced to sell their best players to avoid big losses. But at the same time, Jean-Michel Aulas had also created certain assets that John Textor was quick to squander, outside the stadium.
