Loaned by Rennes to Olympique Lyonnais this summer, Warmed Omari is having a complicated season.
With only two appearances in all competitions since the start of the current sporting year, the 24-year-old central defender has failed to establish himself in the Lyon squad. A situation which could precipitate his return to Brittany from the winter transfer market according to information from the daily Le Progrès. Arriving in Lyon to relaunch his career, Warmed Omari was unable to convince Pierre Sage. His performances during training did not make it possible to change the defensive hierarchy of Les Gones. While OL are going through a difficult period, marked by disappointing results and financial constraints, the player has not found his place in a squad seeking stability.
A chance to seize with Sampaoli
For Lyon, the prospect of ending the loan in January seems logical. This would allow the club to reduce its payroll and rationalize a congested workforce, while meeting the economic imperatives imposed by the DNCG. The scenario could, however, turn into an opportunity for Warmed Omari. Stade Rennais, which has the possibility of ending the loan from January 1, 2024, could welcome its player back. Under former coach Julien Stéphan, he had seen his playing time decrease, but the arrival of Jorge Sampaoli offers a new context. And he could well take advantage of it to grab some playing time under the colors of Rennes.
The Comorian international is determined to regain his best level and play a series of matches in Ligue 1. Warmed Omari's objective is to relaunch his career and keep his place in the Comorian selection. For OL, an early departure of Omari would be part of a strategy aimed at reducing the club's finances and rationalizing sporting choices. For Rennes, this return could enrich the defensive rotation.
