An essential quality to perform?

She is one of the key players in Laurent Mortel's squad in recent seasons. ASSE striker, Cindy Caputo even had her first minutes in the tricolor jersey a few weeks ago. In an interview published on the FFF website, she talks about her journey and her inspirations.

Cindy Caputo, an essential asset for ASSE

Aged 25, Cindy Caputo is one of the most watched players in the Arkema Premier League championship. This season, the Saint-Etienne striker has already scored three goals and provided two assists. She returns to one of her major assets: her left foot.

“I am very proud to be left-handed, because since I was little, this particularity has always distinguished me. There are fewer of us than right-handed people, which made me a little special. And then, when we look at left-handed players , we can dream of beautiful comparisons, Hatem Ben Arfa, for example, particularly inspired me. […] But my number one role model remains Lionel Messi: exclusive left-hander and, above all, the best player in the history of football. For my part, I really admired Ben Arfa for his ball handling, his liveliness, his speed of execution when he dribbles before distributing the ball.

A preference for the right side?

For several meetings, Cindy Caputo has been playing on the left side of the Saint-Etienne attack. However, she admits to having a preference for the opposite corridor.

“It's different. My coach, Laurent Mortel, has had me play on the left for two seasons, as an overflow winger. My role is to bring percussion to the outside and to center at the end of the race. But, personally, I have always preferred to play on the right side, because it allows me to come in on my left foot to curl my shots or drop diving balls. That said, my statistics are better on the left, so I have to. admit that my coach is right to position myself in this position.”
