They have settled in or are chasing playing time. Six ASM players were loaned out during the last summer transfer window hoping to gain strength elsewhere. Ismail Jakobs (Galatasaray), Chrislain Matsima (Augsburg), Myron Boadu (Bochum), Malamine Efekele (Cercle Bruges), Paris Brunner (Cercle Bruges) and Ritchy Valme (Annecy): what does the exile season give?
Jakobs wins then gets injured
His departure at the end of the transfer window was surprising. Established during the first two days, Ismail Jakobs left ASM at the beginning of September for Galatasaray in the form of loan with option to buy*. On the banks of the Bosphorus, the Senegalese quickly made his mark and was almost always aligned by his coach on the left side of the defense. “Jakobs was good, his physique and speed impressed”testifies Sergen Dag, Turkish journalist who follows the Istanbul club. With him, Galatasaray sits at the top of the Süper Lig. “Fans quickly bond with players who play well and that's the case with him. They're happy with his impact in a short time.”
Problem: the former Cologne player has been hampered by a painful knee since mid-October. After missing three games, the defender made his return to the eleven last weekend… before leaving the pitch at halftime, again injured. “He should miss a month of competition. His absence will be felt.”
Matsima has been playing regularly for several weeks. It meets tactical requirements.
Matsima settles down
After Clermont, Augsburg: second loan in two seasons for Chrislain Matsima. At 22, the central defender moved to Bavaria. “He was not a starter at the start but has been playing regularly for several weeks, observes Patrick Guillou, consultant for beIN Sports, Bundesliga broadcaster. He is considered a potential starter, he was a pleasant surprise.” Always called up with the French youth team, Matsima took advantage of absences to take his place in a three-way defense.
He has started his club's last five games. “He meets the tactical demands in a competitive sector and he gets the playing time he hopes for,” underlines Guillou.
Boadu, mixed debut
Myron Boadu plays in a club in difficulty. Last in the Bundesliga without the slightest victory, Bochum is slipping. With two goals and an assist, the Dutchman managed to stand out but missed a turning point according to Patrick Guillou. “He didn't have a bad start but perhaps he took a morale hit against Dortmund, analyzes the former club player, present at the stadium that day. Bochum was leading 2-0 when Boadu had a 3-0 ball in a one-on-one. He missed and Dortmund won 4-2.” The attacker was unable to continue: injured in the pelvis, he has still not returned to the field.
Efekele still silent
Loaned to Cercle Bruges for the second season in a row, Malamine Efekele alternates between starts (4) and matches spent on the bench (7). Fourteenth, the ASM subsidiary club is struggling. If the season ended there, he would play in the play-offs to avoid relegation. The 20-year-old striker has still not scored. “In my opinion, he is far from ready for Monaco”notes a Dutch-speaking journalist who follows the Belgian club.
Brunner must wait
He has not yet worn the Monaco jersey. Arriving on the Rock from Dortmund in August, Paris Brunner was also loaned to Cercle Bruges. But learning takes time for the young striker (18 years old), who only started one match between the championship and the Europa Conference League. “So far, Brunner has been, at best, a supporting role in Bruges”wrote the German newspaper Kicker at the end of October. His only two goals scored were with the German U19s.
Little used value
Unlike Boadu, Ritchy Valme had a nose: fifth in Ligue 2, his Annecy club is doing well. Too much for the defender to settle in? After a few appearances as number 6, the former Gambardella captain only started once against Bastia. A particular match where he was involved in his team's first goal before costing them a penalty. Valme has only played 18 minutes on average since his arrival. Hit in the meniscus, he returned to the Rock for treatment before returning to the field and injuring himself again.
*The purchase option would be obligatory, even if AS Monaco had not communicated on this specific point.
