No rest for Gabriel Gudmundsson (LOSC), Sweden inflicts a blank set on Azerbaijan

LOSC failed to stop Viktor Gyökeres in the Champions League. Azerbaijan, for its part, let him express all his talent and learned the hard way. Sweden offered itself a spectacular victory this Tuesday (6-0).

Each heartbeat resonates in the skull. The memories of the night come back in fragments, blurred and distorted. With your head in your hands, you have to tell yourself that this could never happen again. Here are the symptoms of the hangover, also called the day after, an illness from which Azerbaijan suffers, slapped by Sweden (6-0) and by Viktor Gyökeres, author of a quadruplet this Tuesday on the occasion of the sixth and last day of the Nations League. As of November 19, the Sporting CP scorer, who hit the mark against the Mastiffs in the Champions League, has 32 goals in all competitions (club and selection). Fortunately, Gabriel Gudmundsson was in his camp this time.

To definitively ensure their return to League B, the Blågult had to win against Azerbaijan. If Viktor Gyökeres was not the first to find the net, he made up for it by scoring twice (26′, 37′) before the break, after Dejan Kulusevski had started the hostilities in the 10th minute. In the second half, the latter also scored a double (57′), but he could not compete with his compatriot. A minute later, Gyökeres scored his third goal of the evening (58′), before adding a fourth twelve minutes later (70′). With this quadruple, Gyökeres brings his total to nine goals in six matches in this 2024 edition of the Nations League. Alexander Isak is the only one to have had a less fun evening with a goal disallowed for offside (45+2′) and a penalty saved (49′) after returning from the locker room.

Sweden, with five victories and a draw, concludes its campaign at the head of its group with sixteen points on the clock and is promoted to League B. Gabriel Gudmundsson, for his part, was again aligned in central defense, at the heart of this three-way hinge this time. He was replaced in the 89th by Isac Lidberg.
