Having spent a little over a year with ASSE, Yvann Neyou is now playing for Spain with CD Leganés. Promoted to La Liga this season, the 27-year-old midfielder is performing in his new colors. The former Stéphanois returned to his news in RMC's After Foot.
A harsh adaptation to the elite
After a promising 2022-2023 season, Yvann Neyou definitively commits to CD Leganés in August 2023. Under contract until June 2025, the midfielder is gaining momentum and has contributed to the promotion of the Spanish club in the elite.
Yvann Neyou : “Adapting to La Liga requires vigilance and work. The level is demanding, and the slightest mistake is costly. But this challenge is exciting. What motivates me is not so much the opponents as the continuity and the pleasure of playing match after match.“
The former ASSE player enjoys being in Spain
Yvann Neyou : “I'm really happy here in Leganés. I've been in Spain for two years now and I'm starting my third season. I really enjoy this life and this club.
Spanish football appealed to me from the start: it's a game that suits my style, where technical qualities and playing intelligence take priority over physicality. It really is the ideal environment for me. […] In Leganés, the club is humble and authentic. Everyone, from the players to the supporters, knows the strengths and limitations of the club. The atmosphere is friendly, even in difficult times. For example, during my first season where things were complicated, I never felt any animosity from the fans.”
Neyou focuses on the future
Yvann Neyou seemed to show up out of nowhere. But the midfielder quickly impressed the supporters with his talent. However, the Cameroonian only played two Ligue 2 matches under the Green tunic.
Yvann Neyou : “My future? I haven't asked myself the question yet, I don't really know… I'm focused on my current season and I'm building on my past experiences. I'm not closing any doors for the moment. We learn from Amorim everywhere, I got it in Braga.
Coaches like Ruben Amorim, now coach of Manchester United, or Bastien Tambouret (AJA) taught me a lot. They encouraged me to play boldly and express myself fully on the field. For me, football remains above all a game, a way to have fun and flourish.”
