The two players Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis, engaged since 2023, announced that they were expecting a child this Monday on social networks.
Sam Kerr, star and captain of the Australian football team, and Kristie Mewis, Chelsea player, announced that they were expecting a child on Monday on social networks. Kerr revealed the news on her Instagram account by illustrating it with a series of four black and white photos in photo booth mode, including one where she points to her partner's stomach.
“The Mewis-Kerr baby is coming in 2025!” she wrote.
In a relationship since 2021
The two players, who play for Chelsea and West Ham respectively, also posted a photo of the ultrasound on which the fetus appears. Kerr, 31, and Mewis, 33, have been a couple since 2021 and got engaged in 2023. Mewis made this union official last November. “She’s everything to me,” she explained about Sam Kerr. “She is my biggest supporter, she always listens to me complain, all my crazy things.”
The couple has repeatedly spoken about the importance of sharing their relationship on social media to normalize “being two girls in love.” Sam Kerr, who recently extended his contract until 2026 with Chelsea, had to give up participating in the last Olympic Games in Paris 2024, due to a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament suffered in January. Kristie Mewis was also not included in the group of American players, crowned in the French capital.
The duo, however, participated in the 2023 World Cup under the colors of their respective countries. Krisie Mewis won gold while Sam Kerr and the Australians were eliminated in the round of 16.
