A former Real Madrid player has vetoed Sergio Ramos' comeback at the club.
Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Santi Canizares believes the club should back Raul Asencio as a solution in central defense.
Real were rumored to be looking to buy a new central defender in January after losing Eder Militao to an anterior cruciate ligament injury. Several names have been circulated for this role, including that of Sergio Ramos, an icon of the club.
But Canizares believes that young Asensio must be given a chance. This is what he told Marca: “I like him a lot, he played with my son Lucas at Castilla. I think he's a great player, he's fast and powerful, he's good in the air, he has the size you need today to be a central defender and he's good at moving the ball.” .
“Ramos returning to Real, that won’t happen”
“He’s a young boy and young central defenders make mistakes easily, as do young goalkeepers. We have to bring them into play because they have to play, they have to learn by making mistakes. He just needs a few matches because he has the qualities required.”added the former doorman.
As for the idea of Sergio Ramos returning, he said: “I don’t see him (coming back). Clubs and players finish their careers and second halves are usually no better than firsts. In the mind of Florentino (Perez, president), I think that is not the case and that it will not happen.”
