Nacho says no to return to Real Madrid

Cited among Real Madrid's possible avenues for strengthening a decimated defense, Nacho (34) gave a firm no to this possibility.

The page of Real Madrid has turned well for Nacho (34 years old). The defender left his long-time club last summer for Al-Qadsiah (Saudi Arabia) and he does not intend to return there despite the numerous injuries affecting the Merengues in defense. His name is sometimes mentioned in the Spanish press as a possible reinforcement but he assures that this is not at all on the agenda.

“I remain firm on this decision”

“Real Madrid didn't call me,” he assured in the show 'El Partidazo' on Radio Cope. “If they call me to come back? I didn't even think about it. I was very clear about the decision, knowing that I would have played thirty, forty or fifty matches again. That didn't change the idea that I had in mind. If they call me, I'm very happy here. I have to suffer with Real Madrid as a fan.

Trained at Real, Nacho spent his entire career there, winning 26 titles, including six Champions League and five Spanish championships. “When I made the decision to leave Real Madrid, I knew they were going to play a lot of games, but that wasn't going to affect my decision,” he added. “It was very clear to me. When a person feels that their time has come… I have no regrets, I knew what I was doing and I remain firm on this decision. I am very happy with the decision that I took. There are termination clauses here, I imagine mine will be small, but I don't even consider them paying a clause for me Now it's easier for me, but at. At first it shocked me to see Real Madrid on television, it seemed strange to me. I don't regret the decision at all. Now I support it as another Real Madrid fan.

The Spanish international (29 caps), crowned European champion last summer with La Roja, still sends advice to his former leaders on how to strengthen their rearguard. “I would like them not to recruit anyone and instead focus on young people from the training center,” he explains. “At the end of the day, young players will know if they are ready if they are given the opportunity. The other day Asencio had a very good match. Career needs opportunities. If the club and the “coach are brave, this is the perfect time.”
