La Roja without Merengues, a first in 3 years

Like three years ago, during Euro 2021, the list of the Spain team does not include any players playing for Real Madrid.

Luis de la Fuente announced his list for the next two Nations League matches: the trip to Denmark on Friday November 15 and the reception of Switzerland on Monday 18. Spain will try to maintain its place as leader of the group with 10 points collected in 4 matches (three wins and one draw). A Spanish group once again orphaned by the slightest player from Real Madrid.

It’s a trend that’s been growing over the years. 3 years ago, at Euro 2021, Luis Enrique had already unveiled a list without any merengue, a historic event to say the least when we know that Real Madrid has always been a supplier of Spanish internationals like Raúl, Xabi Alonso, Sergio Ramos, Arbeloa, Carvajal, Vazquez, Morata, Nacho, Isco, Guti, Morientes, Joselu, Casillas, or even Asensio even if Barça undoubtedly remains the first historical breeding ground of La Roja.

Precisely, Dani Carvajal could have been part of Luis de la Fuente's last list but the Spanish right back seriously injured his knee against Villarreal on October 5 and will miss at least the entire season. With the departures of Nacho and Joselu, Real Madrid has even less chance of seeing Madrilenians selected with La Roja. Only Morata (AC Milan), trained at Atlético de Madrid and Real Madrid, represents the Merengue club in a sense with the Spanish selection.

On the other hand, the new golden generation of FC Barcelona is more than ever back within La Roja after a relatively slack period. To begin with, Marc Casadó (21 years old) is the new kid on Luis de la Fuente’s list. Pedri, Olmo, Lamine Yamal are the three other Barcelona players called up by the coach. Cubarsí, Martinez, Balde, Gavi and Fermín are also applying for possible selection in the future. In addition, three players trained at FC Barcelona are also present in the group: Mingueza, Cucurella and Grimaldo.

The absence of Real Madrid players selected with La Roja has sparked ink and sparked strong criticism in Madrid where supporters and journalists consider that Real Madrid should have more confidence in youngsters from La Cantera in the same way that Barça, even more so in this difficult period for the club which is decimated by injuries…

Furthermore, one of the players who could potentially have been called up to the Spain team, Brahim Diaz, decided to play for the Morocco selection a few months ago. And Real Madrid's other Spanish players have little chance of being called up by Luis de la Fuente: Vallejo, Asencio, García, Vazquez, Ceballos, Andrés, Fran González and Mestre for example.
