Wissam Ben Yedder has decided on his fate. The courts ruled and convicted him. But the player will still have to go before a judge because other cases are pending.
A rocking evening
The facts date back to the night of September 6. Wissam Ben Yedder, then without a contract, drank alcohol in his car, parked in a parking lot near his home in Cap-d'Ail. There he met a group of young people with whom he shared part of the evening. Under the influence of alcohol, Ben Yedder ends up isolating one of the young women from the group. A certain Diana S., in her vehicle. The victim, aged 23, described behavior oscillating between friendly and aggressive. She also said she was intimidated to the point of getting into the player's car for fear of reprisals.
The alleged acts include inappropriate gestures and indecent behavior, despite the victim's refusals. The young woman finally managed to escape and alerted the police. When the police tried to arrest Ben Yedder, he refused to stop. He was stopped in the parking lot of his residence with a high blood alcohol level.
The descent into hell
During the hearing, Ben Yedder apologized. He said alcohol was largely to blame. This dark period in his life pushed him to take refuge in drink. To mitigate the facts, his lawyers stressed that this affair acted like an “electric shock” for the player. He has since attended rehab and enrolled in Alcoholics Anonymous.
In addition to this conviction, Ben Yedder still faces other legal proceedings:
- For psychological violence against his wife
- For a rape charge still under investigation
These affairs, which tarnish his image, further distance the attacker from the field. The former international will have to rebuild quickly. Otherwise, he will see his career end sooner than expected. He had confessed his sins, but that didn't seem to be enough.
The verdict is in, is it lenient?
The former captain of AS Monaco was sentenced to two years in prison for:
- Sexual assault while drunk
- Refusal to comply
- Driving under the influence of alcohol
In addition to this sentence, Wissam Ben Yedder must:
- Pay 6,500 euros to the victim
- Pay a fine of 5,000 euros
- Facing a six-month driving license suspension
Absent at the hearing, Ben Yedder is also subject to an obligation of care and was included in the file of perpetrators of sexual offenses.
Is this the end of his career in your opinion?
