LOSC does not make it three in the U19s, stopped in its tracks by RC Lens in the Derby du Nord this Sunday at Domaine de Luchin (1-2).
No need for a plane, nor a train, or even a bus, the youth of Lille played at home this Sunday, in parallel with the travel of their elders to Nice. There was no more important match than this, as she hosted rivals RC Lens for the Derby du Nord at Domaine de Luchin. Despite the weather, a little rain and wind, there were numerous spectators around the rectangle. They were also able, regardless of the result, to watch a pleasant match.
The film of the meeting
At home, in their garden, Stéphane Noro's players were jostled throughout the first act. However, if the mastery of the leather was Lensoise, the liveliness of Lille did serious damage in the rearguard. In two to three passes, the Mastiffs managed to burst into the opposing area, like Ulrich Fokam who was alerted in the first minutes (8′). Strikes, crosses, incursions in the axis, on the sides, they multiplied the situations without being sharp enough to hurt in the last thirty meters. He also sometimes, or even often, lacked presence in the heart of the surface to finish Lille's unfinished business.
In the opposite direction, the RC Lens was more meticulous, more conscientious in a game all in control with incisive pistons from wide to the axis. However, despite this threatening appearance, Lille were betrayed by themselves and by a foul hand from Samy Merzouk which benefited the Lensois attacker at point blank range (21'). The Lensois took the lead, but weakened in the minutes that followed. Still in the same phases of play, LOSC climbed into the opposing area. Ulrich Fokam (26′) and Elias Hadiri (36′) took turns trying their luck with shots which ended up flying off target. The last hot situations of the first act were a handball not whistled in the Lille area (38′) then a missed shot at close range (44′) following a save by Merzouk, therefore without impact before the break (0-1).
Returning from the locker room, RC Lens made up for its mistakes and made the entry break (49′). This gap does not knock out the Mastiffs, ready to attack the opposing cages again. Ruben Akale nevertheless lacked accuracy in front of the cages, like the entire team which struggled in turn in front of goal. The opportunities were numerous, a real slew, but this little bit of success was absent. Only Boussadia, who entered during the game, set the sights on a penalty (88'). And yet, it’s not for lack of trying (1-2).
Stéphane Noro’s reactions
At the final whistle, Stéphane Noro targeted his team's shortcomings: “To win matches, you have to be efficient. Today we stumbled. There were some good things in the use of the ball, but there was a lack of quality in the finishing, in the last pass, in the shift. That's how it is, but it's a shame, because I think we deserved better throughout the match. Lens was better than us on both surfaceshe confided to us. We projected ourselves in transition, there was intensity in the races, but more when we arrived in the area. We have to better manage this type of thing, like our shots with 3 or 4 against 2.”
The technician also defended his goalkeeper, who was at fault for opening the Lensois score: “It's part of the game. They're players in training and they're also there to make mistakes, that's how it is. The objective is to be able to stay in the match and remobilize, that's what he did. He responded afterwardshe continues, then branching off into the collective. We then had to stay in the game project, which we did quite well today. We were rather interesting, we created situations, but the truth is played out on both surfaces. We weren't good at that level. The result is frustrating. I told the boys that they could be disappointed on this point, but that there had been good things in the game and that there was progress in the use of the ball.concluded Stéphane Noro.
