ASSE is preparing to travel to Groupama Stadium to play the first leg of the Derby. Olivier Dall'Oglio presented himself at a press conference this Friday. Excerpts.
Olivier Dall'Oglio (Entraîneur de l'ASSE) : “At some point you will have to feel things. Rigor is both offensive and defensive. In the last match, what I really appreciated was that the two goals we scored, we went for them. These are not gifts from the opponent, the players had to free themselves from their marking to score. That’s also rigor. You have to feel that you can change a match, but that you have to go for it. In matches like the ones to come, it can be long and difficult, but you have to persevere.
OL? It is true that certain players, thanks to their talent, can make the difference. Let's take the example of a player like Lacazette, even if we say he's in a bit of difficulty at the moment, he was able to score at the right time yesterday, and we have to be there for that. This talent, this ability to seize opportunities, is not given to everyone.”
ASSE less well away
Olivier Dall'Oglio (Entraîneur de l'ASSE) : “Two faces between services at home and away? Sometimes we focus on our mistakes. We may have done good things, but they are overshadowed by a few individual mistakes. In Angers, for example, when we came back to 2-2, it was the opponent who was trembling, not us. Unfortunately, our mistakes turned the match around. In Lens too, even though the opposing team was dominant, we conceded a second goal due to an error when they themselves were in difficulty. We need to be able to erase these mistakes to progress.
I would like to emphasize that the staff, by analyzing the matches in depth, sees positive points. Of course, we have things to correct, but there is also good that we don't always see immediately. We are in a society of results, where only victory counts, but we must also recognize progress. In Ligue 1, each error is costly, much more than in Ligue 2. A gross error is difficult to correct at this level, and we have clearly seen that.”
Bouchouari understood
Olivier Dall'Oglio (Entraîneur de l'ASSE) : “We often talk about mastery, and it is true that we have shown it more recently. But here again, we must qualify. Against Strasbourg, for example, in the first half, the opposing team asked us a lot, but we resisted, and in the second half, we were able to take the upper hand. We need to qualify all of this.
For some players like Louis Mouton, who is discovering this level, the experience of last season helped him to progress. Today he shows more information gathering, responsibility, and sobriety in his game, which makes him more effective. It must remain in this register.
As for Benjamin Bouchouari, he became aware of the importance of defending. Benjamin decided to defend! Last season, he was not aware of it and he knows it himself. This is a quality that I have expected from him since my arrival. Now he understands that to play, he must first be an aggressive defensive midfielder. This attitude does not prevent him from shining offensively, by bringing the ball up and distributing it to his teammates. With me, if you defend, you will play. If you don't defend, you won't play. Now he knows it.
Finally, players like Pierre Ekwah are gaining strength and contributing to the stability of the team by recovering more balls. This allows others to perform better as well. This is what makes a real team: everyone can complement each other, and so far, they are doing it well.“
