The new absence of Kylian Mbappé from the French team is causing a lot of ink to flow. The various theories are rife about his current relationship with Didier Deschamps, which could have deteriorated internally in recent months. It must be said that since the start of his mandate in 2012, the national coach had already fallen out with two big stars of the Blues: Franck Ribéry and Karim Benzema.
Present at a press conference Thursday to communicate the list of the next gathering of theFrench team before the matches against Israel and Italy, Didier Deschamps partially explained the reasons for the absence of Kylian Mbappé : « I think it's better like this. I'm not going to argue. What I can tell you, two things: Kylian wanted to come, and it's not the extra-sporting problems that come into play (…) It's my decision, it's better that way. I can understand that this is not enough for you, but I am not going to get into an argument that leads to interpretations », indicated the coach of the Blues. Some see it as an internally degraded relationship between Deschamps et Kylian Mbappéand it would not be a first for the French coach, who has already had relationship problems with two other big stars in his squad since he led theFrench team.
“No support”, a painful end with Ribéry
In 2015, at the microphone of beINSPORTS, Franck Ribery had confided in the end of his adventure quiteFrench team. Forfeited for the 2014 World Cup, he then painfully announced his international retirement but suggests an obvious lack of support from Didier Deschamps while Ribéry was still considered the major star of the Blues at the time: “ I enjoyed playing with the France team, I was very important for two years. I was the top scorer and the best. I had a blast. But, afterwards, in the end, when I had my back problem just before the World Cup, there were little things that displeased me. I felt there was no support “, he said.
Benzema-Deschamps, the legendary clash
And of course, how can we not mention the media confusion between Deschamps et Karim Benzemawhich lasted six years. The 2022 Ballon d'Or, which has long been a global benchmark under the jersey of Real Madrid where he notably won the Champions League five times, was nevertheless banned from theFrench team between 2015 and 2021. A period during which Benzema did not hesitate to tackle head-on Deschampsconsidering in particular that he had not been selected for Euro 2016 since the coach had “ gave in to pressure from a racist part of France ». Karim Benzema finally made his comeback to everyone's surprise for Euro 2021, before retiring from international duty following his last-minute withdrawal for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
