The day after PSG/Atlético Madrid, the Collectif Ultras Paris published a short but precise press release about the “Free Palestine” tifo which provoked a reaction from the political class. PSG is generally excluded from the creative process.
PSG put themselves in a very complicated situation in the Champions League by losing against Atlético Madrid but it is nevertheless a pre-match event which seems to interest the French political class the most this Thursday, namely the immense tifo of the Collectif Ultras Paris du Virage Auteuil revealed a few minutes before kick-off. Before unveiling a second much more traditional and football-oriented tifo, the first indicating in enormous « Free Palestine » had been revealed.
UEFA has already indicated that it will not condemn PSG or the authors of this pre-match entertainment but the French political class, led by Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau, is very involved in this issue. So much so that the new minister even summoned the president of the FFF Philippe Diallo and the general director of PSG Victoriano Melero this Friday for explanations. But the Parisian leader may not be of much help to him.
The CUP is justified
In a press release posted on its social networks, the Collectif Ultras Paris provided some details concerning the famous controversial tifo. Well aware of the scope of its gesture, the CUP had thus prepared its tifo far from the Parc des Princes, therefore out of sight of PSG, and the club had nothing to do with the preparation or deployment.
The Parisian collective also assures that there is no question of “convey a message of hatred. Bian on the contrary, the message that accompanied it is explicit and is a call for peace between peoples. As a reminder, a huge banner at the bottom of Auteuil accompanied the tifo on which it was written: “War on the ground, peace in the world”
