The new star of the Portuguese championship, Samu, recently reported that he wanted to change his name for personal reasons.
If this 20-year-old Spanish striker continues to be talked about, we shouldn't hear his name for much longer. For good reason, the one we still call Samu “Omorodion” recently revealed that he now wanted to be called differently.
Omorodion, now Aghehowa
These are choices that go far beyond the framework of football. A native of Melilla in Spain, and also holding Nigerian nationality, Samu recently made a public request regarding the name given to him. If until then, Portuguese football fans were able to discover him under the name of Samu “Omorodion”, the new nugget of FC Porto no longer wants to hear these last letters, referring to his father.
Furthermore, the 20-year-old now wants to promote his maternal side, by proudly wearing his mother's name on lawns around the world. “Everything my mother did for me is priceless, and I want to honor her by using her last name. I now want to be recognized by her name. People know me by another name, but from now on I want to be called Aghehowa”Samu recently declared in club media.
A stratospheric start to the season
A name that should quickly enter people's minds, as the young Spanish striker has been talked about since the start of the season. Arriving this summer from Atlético de Madrid, Samu Aghehowa has already scored no less than eleven goals in as many matches since his debut under the colors of FC Porto. The center forward has particularly stood out on the European scene, with four goals already scored in the Europa League, including two scored last month against Manchester United.
Surprisingly efficient, Samu Aghehowa could well reach a new level in the coming days. As he prepares to face Lazio with FC Porto, the Spanish U21 international would be expected to join, for the first time in his young career, the main group of La Roja during the month of November. A great reward, which could allow him to proudly wear the name “Aghehowa”, so dear to him, behind the legendary Spanish jersey.
