after the improbable altercation with his coach, Marcelo released by Fluminense

After the incredible disagreement with his coach during the match against Gremio, Marcelo is no longer a Fluminense player. The Brazilian club announced the termination of the 36-year-old's contract “by mutual agreement between the parties”.

The story between Marcelo and Fluminense ends in blood sausage. Trained at the Laranjeiras neighborhood club in Rio, the 36-year-old defender had a heated exchange with his coach Mano Menezes during the draw against Gremio on Friday evening in the Brazilian D1. While he was ready to come on, the former Real player was sent to the bench by his coach after a heated altercation. “I was going to bring Marcelo in, but I heard something that I didn't like and I changed my mind,” explained the technician in a post-match press conference.

The day after this lunar scene, the Brazilian club announced the termination of Marcelo's contract “by mutual agreement between the parties” a few weeks before the end of the lease. The full-back is therefore now a free player.

“The institutional and emotional ties between Fluminense and Marcelo continue to be maintained. The footballer's name was recently immortalized in the stadium of the Xerém training center. Fluminense thanks Marcelo and will continue, as always, to support his success in all its challenges,” the club said in a statement.

Returning to his training club in February 2023 after a failed stint at Olympiakos, Marcelo became the 14th player in history to have won the Champions League and the Copa Libertadores after Fluminense's coronation in November 2023.
