Manchester United confirms the arrival of Ruben Amorim (but we will still have to wait)

Manchester United formalized the appointment of Ruben Amorim as first team coach this Friday. Successor to Erik Ten Hag on the Red Devils bench, the Portuguese technician is committed until 2027 but will first lead three final meetings with Sporting before joining the Premier League.

No surprise on the name, but a small twist in terms of timing. As expected, Manchester United confirmed the arrival of Ruben Amorim this Friday. The current coach of Sporting Portugal has been appointed coach of the Red Devils until June 2027, with an additional year optional. The Portuguese coach arrives at the current 14th in the Premier League to replace Erik Ten Hag, who was dismissed from his duties on Monday.

“It’s done,” the English club reacted soberly when announcing the news to its fans on social networks. “Welcome to Manchester United, Ruben Amorim.”

Amorim will arrive during the truce

To complete the signing of Ruben Amorim, Manchester United paid 10 million euros to Sporting, the amount of his release clause. However, the Mancunian club clarified that its new coach would only take up his duties during the international break, on November 11. Until then, he still has three games to manage on the Sporting bench.

While awaiting the effective arrival of the Portuguese coach in Manchester, Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue his interim role. For his first, the Dutchman saw the Red Devils win against Leicester in the League Cup (5-2). But this Sunday, another piece will arrive at Old Trafford in the championship: Chelsea. A match where Manchester United will try to confirm their rebound.
