After a match with desire but without success, the VAFC lost to Sochaux (2-0) this Friday on the occasion of the 9th day of National. The fault lies in a severe lack of realism despite opportunities for the Valenciennes and lapses in concentration.
A good start and then…
The start of the match was to the advantage of Valenciennes who put more of their foot on the ball. The races are good, the passes too. Ahmed Kantari’s men bring intensity to the image of Mathias Oyewusi. The first strike of the match comes very early (2′) from Sissoko. The ball is captured by the Sochaux goalkeeper. And then, the Sochaliens regained control of the game and got their first big opportunity with Gnanduillet’s header captured by Mathieu Michel (12′). The Sochalian climbs hurt the VA defense.
And what was supposed to happen happened. On a cross from Franche-Comté Mendes, the ball was deflected and returned to the feet of Samy Benchama. His shot is on point to beat Michel. 1-0 for Sochaux. Sochaux leads the score in this meeting without having possession. The used bit has been converted. But the Sochaliens are not satisfied. Nassim Ouammou, defender, sends a powerful shot from 30 meters (33′) deflected for a corner by the Valencia goalkeeper. This is a huge opportunity for the rookie. The people of Valenciennes are regaining their senses and planning further.
Following an error by the opposing team’s defense, Venema found himself alone on the counter-attack. He comes up against the goalkeeper (40′) who puts out a handball parade on the ground. The action is followed a few minutes later by a high recovery from Nick Venema. He eliminates a defender with a hook and serves Oyewusi who slips and lacks power in his shot which was captured without any worries by the goalkeeper (45+1′). Sochaux leads at half-time.

Logically, the VAFC leaves the locker room with the desire to get back on track. The intentions are there on the ground. Better technical mastery, more desire but still this cruel lack of efficiency in the last gesture like this cross from Woudenberg for Oyewusi who fails to hit the ball (69′). VA pushes but cannot find the fault. Despite the arrival of replacements, nothing changes.
While Valencia’s attacks increased at the end of the match (83′, 85′, 86′), Sochaux gained time. On a ball poorly negotiated by Mpata Lama in the last minutes of added time, Noah Fatar emerges to take the ball from him, accelerates to the edge of the touchline and serves Corentin Jean who just has to push the ball deep nets (90+4′). 2-0 for Sochaux is the final score of the match. A second consecutive defeat for Ahmed Kantari’s VAFC and a 6th match without a victory.
