FC in the Champions League, ’s crazy ambition

New president of FC who has experienced financially complicated recent months, Iwan Postel dreams big for the Norman club and does not hide it. He plans to be in the Champions League in seven years after reaching milestones.

FC Rouen is not a miracle, but almost. On the verge of bankruptcy last season under the leadership of President Charles Maarek, the Norman club escaped the worst thanks to the takeover of the club which allowed the FCR to keep its place in National 1. New boss of the Norman institution, Iwan Postel knows it, he is expected. The latter does not hide his ambitions and wants to make FC Rouen the only real club in the city even if he has to face the rivalry of QRM (also in National 1 this season): “There should only be one club and that is the FCR. I am ready to sit down around a table to discuss and add the M of Métropole to the FCR. But if you are a football player, how do you feel? You play in the same city, would you rather play in the club with two coats and three heads applauding you or be cheered by an entire stadium?he asked himself, before looking a little further with a real medium-term project.

FC Rouen aims for the Champions League in 2031

A very good N1 club, FC Rouen is a historic team and Iwan Postel only wants one thing, to discover the most prestigious European competition in a short time: “We spent more than two million to clear the debts, then we injected money to reorganize, at the end of the season we will have invested five million euros. The minimum ambition is to be in Ligue 2, and in the medium term to be in Ligue 1. Every two years, we must reach a new level. People will say I’m crazy but I aim for FC Rouen to be in the Champions League within seven years.” he confirmed in an interview for 3 Normandie. Enough to dream of supporters who have seen their favorite team narrowly miss out on promotion to Ligue 2 in recent years. Returning to the professional world will be a reasonable first objective before considering the rest, but after months of struggle and doubts, FC Rouen has regained appetite and ambition.
