FIFA in court!

Complaints about overloaded schedules have increased in recent months and the issue could take another turn. Unions file complaint against
FIFA.

If until now it did not seem to be taken very seriously by the highest authorities, the issue of overloaded calendars in football could take a completely different turn in the coming weeks and months. Indeed, this Monday, October 14, theEuropean Leaguea union which brings together the main European championships, and the FIFPRO Europefiled a complaint with the European Commission in Brussels against the imposition by the
FIFA of the international match calendar. The complaint relates in particular to the 2026 World Cup
and the Club World Cupthe first edition of which should be held from June 15 to July 13, 2025 in the United States. According to the two custodians of the complaint “ This oversaturated schedule endangers the safety and well-being of players. It also threatens the economic and social sustainability of national competitions enjoyed for generations by fans in Europe and around the world.« .

The calendar, but not only that…

In addition to the overloaded schedule, theEuropean
League
and the FIFPRO denounce a conflict of interest on the side of the FIFA. Indeed, the highest football authority in the world is the governing body but also the organizer of several competitions. Thus it is reproached to the FIFA for using his power to promote his own commercial interests, to the detriment of players or leagues. The complaint also mentions the possibility of adding player unions and leagues in the decision-making processes regarding calendars.
