Portugal wins in Poland (1-3)

Traveling to Poland this Saturday evening, Portugal won by a score of three goals to one. The Seleção got scared at the end of the match, but continued to dominate their Nations League group.

This Saturday evening in Warsaw, Portugal quite logically won for its third match in the group stage of the League of Nations. Starting in midfield, it was first Rúben Neves who lit the fuse with a magnificent cross for Bruno Fernandes. The Manchester United midfielder put the ball back perfectly Bernardo Silvawho took the lead with a beautiful volley (26′). Ten minutes later, it’s Cristiano Ronaldo who distinguished himself by scoring his 133rd goal with the Seleção, in front of empty cages. The five-time Ballon d’Or benefited from sensational work from Rafael Leão, who, on a solitary rush, saw his shot crash against the post then rebound towards his captain (37′).

In the second period, more precisely after the exits of Cristiano Ronaldo and Rafael Leão on the hour mark, the Portuguese team gradually lost its footing. This is evidenced by this reduction in the Polish score, signed by Piotr Zielinski (78′). The Inter Milan midfielder took advantage of a poor intervention from young Renato Veiga and the passivity of Rúben Neves to come face to face with Diogo Costa and win it. In danger, the Seleção was able to count on the enormous activity of Nuno Mendes, coupled with the big error of Jan Bednarek, who propelled the ball into his own net (88′).

1-3 at the final whistle, Portugal now has three victories in as many matches in this Nations League group stage. Roberto Martinez and his men are in first place in their group (9 pts), ahead of Croatia (6 pts) and Poland (3 pts). Defeated by Luka Modric’s gang (2-1)Scotland has zero points and will face Portugal next Tuesday.
