Vincent Romain: “It’s absolutely amazing the speed with which everything collapsed. It’s unheard of on the scale of French football”

On Inter, the Sud Ouest journalist Vincent Romainmentioned the debt today of the Girondins de , including the “slates” left by the club to businesses in the region.

“The club’s total debt is at least 118 million euros, which is absolutely considerable. A few weeks ago, was liquidated even though it had 3 million euros in debt. Today it looks like a club too big to completely collapse. If tomorrow the Commercial Court pronounces the liquidation of the Girondins de Bordeaux, the €118 million in debts will be erased instantly. All creditors will have to settle their claims. There are plenty of companies that will lose money if the Girondins are liquidated, knowing that whatever happens they will lose money with the current judicial recovery.”

These last few years have left their mark in the city and among Bordeaux supporters.

“There is a downgrade because not so long ago, only six years ago, the Girondins played in the European Cup. It’s absolutely mind-blowing how quickly everything collapsed. This is unheard of on the scale of French football. Even , when they collapsed and were liquidated, there was first a real sporting downfall. There, it’s all at once. So we say to ourselves that the Girondins, who have one of the finest records in French football, almost in the blink of an eye, find themselves in the fourth division playing against the Voltigeurs de Châteaubriant… You have to get your neck a little wet casually when you are a Girondins supporter.”
