A resident of LOSC, Angel Gomes is proud of his game, his life journey and his career. He is proud of his differences, those having brought him to Lille, and leaves himself the choice of time for the future.
Newcomer to the England team, Angel Gomes (24 years old) recently spoke to TimesBritish media for which he spoke about his career, distinct from that of the usual English internationals. It must be said, this brought him to the Mastiffs, an unprecedented entity for a Three Lions player. Even Joe Cole, who was famous, had not written this line in Lille history.
His story suddenly changed when he left his training club Manchester United, free of any contract. He made the big leap in August 2020 when José Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had not placed their trust in him, nor planned the slightest project for his progression. He thus joined LOSC, but also and above all Boavista in Portugal, where he was loaned for a year: “I had confidence in myself, but at the time I wondered what the hell I was doing hererecognizes the Briton. I didn’t know it until I had a meeting with the coach, Vasco Seabra. He started showing me clips of games in which I had done good things. He told me this was what he needed and that I needed to become an essential player on his team. He didn’t want to put pressure on me, didn’t care about my status, but wanted me to come every day to play and enjoy. I found it very refreshing. I can’t really express how much he helped me because I was really depressed at the time. From that moment on, I loved everything”he smiles today.
Angel Gomes often thinks back to his journey and what could have happened differently: “I sometimes think about where I would be today if I had stayed at United. The leap I was able to make and the trajectory I followed, the places I went, what I learned from the different coaches along the way, the details, the effort and the love that They put into my game, I don’t think I would be where I am now without all of that.”admits the pocket midfielder, grateful to all the people he met along the way.
With his contract expiring at the end of this 2024-2025 season, Angel Gomes knows he has the cards in his hands and remains calm about his future, enjoying the present moment before anything else: “As incredible as it is, after finding happiness abroad (in France, editor’s note), I know that playing in the Premier League is not an end in itself. Manchester United? There will always be that emotional soft spot, so of course it would be hard to say no.”he concluded, offering this little treat to his interlocutors and to numerous media, who did not hesitate to reuse this shocking phrase to make the headlines.
