Labrune and the LFP criticized by the Geoffroy-Guichard stands

During the meeting between Saint-Étienne and , several banners took place in the Kops of Geoffroy-Guichard. Messages targeting Vincent Labrune and the LFP in a current context where the president of the League is not unanimous.

At the end of a complicated end of mandate against the backdrop of delicate negotiations to obtain TV rights for the period 2024/2029, Vincent Labrune was finally re-elected as head of the LFP last September (editor’s note, 86% in the first round).

A re-election which did not fail to provoke reactions in all the stadiums in through various positions taken by groups of supporters of Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 clubs. Last Saturday during the meeting between L ASSE and Auxerre (3-1) several messages were displayed in Kop in the first period, before Kop Sud took over.

On the MF91 side, a first burst of banners flourished in the bays of the Paret stand:

  • “It’s the story of a guy, he comes to the head of the LFP after the Mediapro scandal”
  • “He empties the stadiums but is under the thumb of the TVs, of Nasser. He increases his salary and the charges of the LFP”
  • “He sells 13% of Ligue 1 for life to a fund investment. He has just sold the TV rights to DAZN and BEIN, back to square one.”
  • “With the support of Nasser, he was re-elected for 4 years of shenanigans. In search of the death of French football”
  • “In fact at the LFP if voting served any purpose, it would have been banned for a long time”
  • “BeIN Sports kills Ligue 2”

It was then the GA92 who took over with new messages for the LFP and its leader:

  • “Nasser says, Labrune executes. It’s LFP-style democracy”
  • “Taking millions while the clubs are dying. Being the lapdog of Qatar and trampling on democracy. Labrune, you are no longer a president but the dictator of the LFP.”

Banners which for the most part refer to the recent election of Vincent Labrune. If his main opponent Cyril Linette did not receive the support of the board of directors of the LFP which mainly supported Labrune in this election, the proposals of the former Canal journalist and sports boss of the encrypted channel had the favors of the general public and supporters. Bad luck, it was the representatives of Ligue 1, Ligue 2, the FFF, UNICATEF, Foot Unis and the UNFP who had the upper hand in this election. At 86% they elected Vincent Labrune.

An election which was brought forward by several months and in which many football players denounced manipulation by Labrune. Jean-Michel Roussier president of the HAC in the columns of The Team last August was surprised by the sudden urgency of this election even though Labrune, the LFP and LFP Media were in the middle of a parliamentary investigation and the TV rights negotiations were not yet closed.
