The Tops and Flops of the first 7 days

Note that we have chosen not to take on players who have collected less than three ratings since the start of the season (Aiki, Cornud, Fomba, Maçon, Nzuzi, Owusu, Stassin, Tardieu).

Note also that the averages of Mathis Amougou and Aïmen Moueffek are somewhat truncated. Indeed, the two midfielders came off in the 30th minute during the disaster in and were, in fact, not noted during this lackluster meeting.

The Tops / Flops of ASSE by Peuple-Vert.fr

Among the best players (according to the editor’s notes on the first seven games of the season), only four players are above average. Among them, Aïmen Moueffek and Mathis Amougou have an average of 5.3/10, but as mentioned above, these averages are truncated.

On the other hand, those of Pierre Ekwah (5.25/10) and Ben Old (5.2/10) are quite representative and embody the renewal of ASSE in recent weeks. The midfielder on loan from Sunderland has become a strong link in the Saint-Etienne midfield, proof of which is that he scored 7/10 against and 6/10 against , during Saint-Etienne’s two victories. Ben Old, for his part, shone this Saturday against Auxerre (7/10) and otherwise showed a certain stability (5/10 in three matches), to the point of establishing himself as an indisputable starter offensively.

Dylan Batubinsika (4.86/10) and Ibrahim Sissoko (4.83/10) are very close to average. The Saint-Etienne central defender particularly shone against Lille, and Auxerre and, like the entire team, sank in Nice. The ASSE striker has risen from the ashes in recent weeks (7 in Nantes, 6 against Auxerre) after having experienced difficulties against and Nice (3/10 in each meeting).

Conversely, two players have averages lower than 4.5/10. For one of them, it is not a surprise, since it is Yunis Abdelhamid. The experienced defender, who arrived from , was in great difficulty at the start of the season, to the point of having been sent to the bench after the Nice rout. The second player is Mathieu Cafaro. Aside from his performance and his goal against Lille (6/10) and two average matches against Monaco and (5/10), the ASSE winger is far from having convinced the drafting of PV against Brest and Nice (3/10).

It is interesting to compare today’s Tops and Flops with those designated after the previous truce. Ben Old was already part of the Tops after J3, just like Mathis Amougou. Gautier Larsonneur is downgraded and sees his average drop, going from 5.33 to 4.71. Among the flops, Yunis Abdelhamid is still present unlike Zuriko Davitashvili, hero against Auxerre, who went from an average of 3.67/10 after 3 matches, to 4.71/10 today.
