Almost a year ago, John Textor got people talking in Brazil after a defeat by Botafogo. The American businessman, furious, said on Brazilian television: “it wasn’t the red card that changed the match, it was the corruption. It’s theft. The referee must resign tomorrow, this championship is a joke. No one deserves this, they can deport me. This is corruption, this must change.” Comments which ignited the country and led to a complaint from the Brazilian federation for defamation.

Since then, Textor has been interviewed by investigators and even delivered documents that could prove corruption in Brazilian football to the civil police in Rio de Janeiro. And obviously, his accusations seem to be confirmed more and more. William Rogatto, accused of being the main instigator of a project to manipulate games of chance in the Federal District, gave interesting testimony before the Senate. “I’ve relegated 42 teams and I’m known as the relegation king, but you can’t make money without relegating them. I’m not killing anyone, I’m not stealing from anyone, the system is broken. I’m going against the system.
