Former Ligue 2 player – Stijn Spierings on RC : “It was difficult with almost everyone”

He was one of the major players of the FC for two seasons in Ligue 2, allowing the Violets to return to the elite. But then his departure for the RC en Ligue 1 did not go as hoped. Quickly put aside a few weeks after his arrival, Stijn Spierings spent another year on loan at Téfécé, before moving this summer to Denmark, to Brondby. In an interview with Tipsbladet, the Dutchman looks back on this disappointing stint with the Sang et Or, where he failed to adapt.

“Everything seemed positive to me, so I signed. But when I arrived at the club, I felt that I didn’t get along well with my teammates and the coaches. It was difficult with almost everyone. I had a lot of trouble with that compared to Toulouse where I had success with a lot of friends. The French are not open to new people. When you don’t speak French, it can be difficult. After four games, the coach called me and told me that I didn’t have a place in the team (…). I was loaned out for a year and then came back in pre-season. There was a new coach and he liked me, but the president wanted me to leave. It’s a great relief to have left Lens. I wasn’t happy there. »
