TV rights: A shortfall estimated at 20 million euros for LOSC

The summer was marked by the uncertainty of television rights and the transition from Prime Video to DAZN, the new official broadcaster of the French championship. At the heart of these upheavals, LOSC saw its revenues decrease by 60%.

Still on cloud nine, following LOSC’s victory over Real Madrid, Olivier Létang was on the radio Europe 1 over the past week. He discussed a myriad of subjects, including news from the Professional Football League and domestic TV rights for the French championship: “I have already spoken out on the re-election of Vincent Labrunebegan the president on this first theme, referring to a press conference held in September. In the possibilities we had, Vincent is and was the best choice. We discussed it a lot with him, and it was on the condition that there was a break with what happened previously. I don’t want to go over previous events. We know that now we are starting again with a new cycle to build the successes of tomorrow. We must all move forward together for French football”insisted the Lille leader.

He then moved on to domestic television rights for Ligue 1. This eternal soap opera, which led to an agreement with DAZN and BeIN Sports, is the source of a certain drop in revenue at LOSC: “For our club, this season, we are losing 60% of TV rights, which represents 20 million eurosconfides Olivier Létang. The club had to be strong. Imagine if this had happened four years ago. This is linked to two things: the reduction in income and a very significant increase in costs. When I spoke of rupture, we must find collective solutions. The important thing is not the general income, but what we divide between clubs. This one melted”judges the president of LOSC.

However, despite being shaken, French football has potential: “We have a championship that is very strong. The French are always criticizing, but external opinions do not follow this guideline. Paulo Fonseca for example, when he arrived, he quickly said that the championship was strong, that the stadiums were great, that there were people. He told me that in Italy there were only four or five teams and that if you took the others, there were no interesting players. He always said that in , there were players who played in one team, but could very well play in another, stronger one.confides the northern leader, who also played at Stade Rennais, Stade de and Saint-Germain. With Brazil, we have a country that is one of the biggest suppliers of talent. We have this wealth, so let’s stop criticizing Ligue 1 which is a very strong championship. Again this year, LOSC beat Real Madrid, AS Monaco beat FC Barcelona… Let’s stop denigrating each other”launched Olivier Létang, for the final words.
