In an interview for The TeamMilan Bisevac, former central defender of PSG, Valenciennes and Lyon, spoke about his meeting with Carlo Ancelotti when the latter arrived at the head of the Parisian club in 2012. Recruited by Antoine Kombouaré, Bisevac admits having felt a certain apprehension in the face of the arrival of an internationally renowned coach: “When Carlo Ancelotti signed in Paris, I asked myself the question: ‘How will it go for me?’”. The defender feared not being known or recognized by a coach used to managing world stars. However, their first exchange in the corridors of the club immediately reassured him. “He said to me in French: ‘You Serbs, you are tough, you are warriors’. In my head, it was relief.” Despite his initial doubts, Bisevac found his place under Ancelotti, even playing in a different position as a right back, while enjoying the coach’s trust.

A bad memory of Leonardo

However, his time at PSG was cut short by a decision that he is still struggling to digest: his departure orchestrated by Leonardo. “The decision that you never understood? That of Leonardo to make me leave PSG,” confides Bisevac, while the Parisian club began to structure itself around great ambitions and renowned players like Ibrahimović. “When Ibra arrived, he said to me ‘are you staying?’, I said ‘yes’, but the will must be on both sides…”. Despite the pressure exerted to push him towards the exit, Bisevac remains firm: “If you want to put pressure on me, it doesn’t work. In my life, I have gone through pressure that you cannot imagine.” By talking about his experience in Serbia during the war, he puts the pressure in football into perspective. Ultimately, it is in Lyon that the defender will find a new base, but he maintains cordial relations with Ancelotti and even with Leonardo, despite a difficult separation.
