Laid off on a precautionary basis since mid-September, Chancel Mbemba has once again been financially sanctioned by OM, according to L’Equipe. The former captain of the Marseille club could, however, rejoin the group after the international break.
Between OM and Chancel Mbemba, it’s no longer mad love. First placed in the loft because Roberto De Zerbi did not count on him, the former captain of the Marseille club made a mistake by clashing verbally with Ali Zarrak, assistant to Medhi Benatia and head of the OM reserve. OM could oppose Mbemba regarding the medical aspect
Last September, the player refused to attend medical examinations requested by OM, including an MRI. And so, the Marseille club called him for an interview on September 23. According to information from our colleagues at L’Equipe, the central defender received this Friday, through his Belgian lawyer, notification of his sanction: a new salary deduction of 21 days due to his absence from medical examinations upon his return from selection – Mbemba had played two full matches with DR Congo last September.
Summoned again by his selection for two matches against Tanzania on October 10 and 15, Mbemba could in this interminable series however be reintegrated into the OM group according to the professional football charter. But nothing suggests that the conflict will end because the club could put forward its opposition concerning the medical aspect, not considering Mbemba fit to play due to pain in his left knee. The player would not wish to have an operation despite the club’s request, aware of having been able to play the last two matches with DR Congo in their entirety.
