On RMC, former French international Christophe Dugarry gave an update on the OM attack after their defeat against Strasbourg. He points out the level of play of Elye Wahi who is unable to launch his season with OM.
Christophe Dugarry is not at all convinced by the level of play of the OM attacker: “Wahi remains a young player who is discovering a new environment and a particular planet in France: Marseille. Playing there is difficult, it’s a lot of pressure. We expect a lot from him, it’s a big transfer. We often say that we want players who fight, and in Marseille there is a phrase which says that you have to wet your jersey. Sometimes it doesn’t mean anything, but then we have that feeling. This boy needs to fight, he needs to show more combativeness because he is completely off base. He needs to wake up! »

Questioned by Provence, the former OM striker, Mark Libra gave his opinion on the case Place : “He is lacking success… But there is nothing to say about his involvement. Besides, people killed him because of his missed opportunities, but no one pointed out that he was at the conclusion and that he had the intelligence to be in the right place. He’s only 21, there’s no point in going after him. Aubameyang took two months to get back on his feet, then he was exceptional. It’s easy to type on Wahi. But it is perhaps the future of OM, we must not burn it. (…) Perhaps we need to reshuffle the cards and put Neal Maupay in to protect Wahi. Maupay knows how to handle pressure. We saw him in Lyon, he has character. This is what I will do against Angers, but I am not in Roberto De Zerbi’s place. And if Maupay proves more decisive, it will be up to Wahi to work harder to regain his place. It’s called competition (…) If he finishes the season with 10-15 goals, that will be very good for a first year. »

The sports journalist continues by comparing the performances of Neal Maupay and those ofElie Wahi. “Maupay’s experience in Premier Leaguethat is to say fighting on the pitch and participating intensely in the collective effort without necessarily being the first scorer, it is something that he will do much better than Wahi”estimated Daniel Riolo. “Wahi must match the intensity and demands of Roberto De Zerbi. He did not make us dream but he was nevertheless present in the collective work. We can’t blame him for that. […] I saw Maupay play in the Premier League, he’s not the guy who left Ligue 1 somewhat anonymously. I’m not talking about a crack player, but on the pitch he doesn’t shy away from the task. »
