Erling Haaland’s blunder at the wheel

Zapping Our World Hugo Lloris: The big dates in blue

Erling Haaland was spotted using his mobile phone while driving his Mercedes Maybach after the 2-2 draw against Arsenal. The scene, captured and then shared on TikTok, shows the 24-year-old Norwegian striker scrolling through his phone while stopped in traffic, before putting the device down when traffic resumed. The behaviour comes just hours after Haaland scored the opening goal of the game in the ninth minute. Despite his performance on the pitch, the footballer quickly drew criticism, not for his play, but for his reckless driving. This is not the first time the player has been caught with his phone in a car, with a similar incident occurring a year ago when he was driving his Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

The criticisms are flying

Road safety organisations including Brake and The Road Safety Trust have strongly condemned her behaviour, calling her phone use “dangerous and irresponsible”. Lucy Straker, Brake’s head of campaigns, stressed the importance of influential people like Haaland leading by example and behaving responsibly on the road. She stressed that using a phone while driving significantly increases the risk of accidents, which can lead to serious injury or death, as reported by The Sun.
