The physical plan of the players

In the mixed zone, Bruno Irles was blunt after the criticism from the Châteaubriant coach on the presence of the Girondins in National 2. He broached the subject of transfers, and discussed the physical preparation of his players.

Bruno Irles in the mixed zone: “Physically, we feel that the work is starting to pay off, the players have gone all the way. If we compare ourselves to the opponent who had more than a month’s preparation, this is our fourth match. On that level (physically), you didn’t feel it, while there are players who arrived a week ago. There are also players for whom we could have thought there would have been a gap, and yet, they took over.”

“I don’t think it’s due to tension.”

“I think that in the first half, the players forgot the fundamentals. There is nothing that annoys me more than when we don’t respond to what I had prepared them for. At the beginning, we didn’t respond, we failed, and that annoys me. I don’t think it’s due to tension. The whole stadium was positive, the crowd helped. We get tense when a stadium insults you, and that wasn’t the case there.”

Andy Carroll, doubled

“Andy Carroll is a boy who was motivated to come, and you saw that there were quite a few duels where he didn’t hide. It’s not because he was in the Premier League and now he’s in National 2 that he didn’t fight; of course, he’s rewarded, because he has this ability to finish. I expected that, based on what I had analyzed about him. Now, we’ll have to continue like that. He sets the bar high from the first match.”

The choice to fall behind

“We are preparing for the week with the newcomers who cannot play (Amadou Diallo and Djibril Diaw). They will help us, and others will arrive too. But once again, whether it is with the players who have joined us, we made the choice with John Williams to lose a little time at the start of the season to wait for quality and obtain the right profiles, even if it means falling a little behind. Indeed, we are falling behind, it will have to happen quickly with those who will arrive.”

Irles, a cash response

“I’m a coach, and I’d like my colleagues to stay in their place. When you’re in , there are laws, there are federations, there’s the league. I think that the Girondins de have been demoted, and many employees are going to lose their jobs; we can’t say that we’re in a very comfortable position. If we’re in National 2, it’s because we deserve it; if we’re in receivership, it’s because the State and football felt that this club could get going again. So he should stay in his place and concentrate on his match. If he had been good, he wouldn’t have conceded a goal in the second half. It will do everyone good to stay in their place.”
