OM: A big sanction avoided, thanks DAZN and PSG!

OM supporters celebrated the 125th anniversary of the club in style when they hosted on Saturday. But the smoke bombs set off during the match could cost Olympique de Marseille dearly.

Saturday afternoon was a day of celebration in Marseille and not just because Roberto De Zerbi’s team won against Nice (2-0). OM supporters celebrated the 125th anniversary of the Marseille club with a superb atmosphere, magnificent tifos… and a huge burst of smoke bombs a few minutes before the end of the match. The game was even paused for a minute or two, while the smoke cleared, after a burst like we rarely see in Ligue 1. Unsurprisingly, Olympique de Marseille will find themselves before the LFP disciplinary committee and risks receiving a hefty fine as well as the closure of certain stands.

The LFP does not want to spoil the party for OM-PSG

The timing is nevertheless very bad for the French football authorities because OM-PSG is coming up on October 27. And according to the account @Right_to_the_Butfollowed by more than 35,000 Marseille supporters, the LFP will do its utmost not to sanction the Olympian club during the Classique, especially since this match should allow DAZN to increase its number of subscribers. “The trap is closing on the Disciplinary Committee. After the festivities of OM’s 125th anniversary, the disciplinary committee is very embarrassed between applying the usual scale of sanctions for OM/ and especially OM/PSG while DAZN is banking heavily on this match” explains the insider account on X before concluding.

“Some are recommending a long period of instruction in order to be able to suspend the CU & MTP zones after OM/PSG, i.e. for OM/AJA and OM/ASM. Other “intellectuals” are proposing to suspend the zones for Angers with an additional reprieve applicable after OM/PSG. Welcome to L1″ published the account @Droit_au_ but, which therefore makes it known that Olympique de Marseille could benefit from the leniency of the LFP disciplinary committee, with sanctions postponed in time or even reduced altogether and all this with the aim of not compromising the spectacle during the clash against Saint-Germain.

It is easy to imagine that a partially closed-door Classic would be a blot, especially for DAZN, which has paid 400 ME per year for the majority of Ligue 1 matches and for this type of match in priority, which should allow it to recover a colossal number of subscribers. Clearly, a difficult choice will be posed to the League and the decisions of the disciplinary committee will be closely observed, both in the Marseille camp and in that of the Parisians.
