Some will only see it as a detail, but for the superstitious and those passionate about the history of the MHSC, it will always have a little meaning. To mark the club's 50th anniversary, the Pailladins inaugurated a red and white third jersey during Brest's reception at La Mosson, paying homage to the tunic worn during the first promotion to Ligue 1 in the early 1980s. That evening, against the Bretons, the success was there, in style, offering a moment of happiness to our players and supporters.
Since then, knowing the superstition that animates the corridors of Grammont, this red jersey has been regularly used, apart from a few exceptions, notably in the Coupe de France. But its record remains (very) mixed, also marked by draws against Lille and Nice, and less exciting results. Particularly outside our bases. Last Friday, against Monaco, the orange and blue colors, more emblematic than historic, made their comeback on the shoulders of the Pailladins. And with them, a resounding success against a contender for the Champions League, restoring slim hopes in our quest to maintain.
Should we see this as a simple coincidence or the effect of a return to traditions? For the superstitious, the impact seems obvious. While a fourth jersey is in preparation, with an impersonal golden color, some will argue for keeping the emblematic colors during the next trip to Toulouse. Colors which also brought home a success from the Stadium last season. Perhaps this is the key to continuing to believe in a maintenance that many consider improbable. The story, in any case, does not lack charm.
-Yes. We hold on to what we can.
