“My goal is to sign a professional contract with Stade Brestois,” announces Saliou Diop, top scorer in R1

The top scorer of the two R1 groups has already been called up twice in Ligue 1 (against Saint-Étienne and ). A big gap well accepted by this Senegalese with the aim of making football his profession.

R1. Guipavas – Stade Brestois (B), Sunday (3 p.m.)

You arrived at Stade Brestois less than a year ago, can you tell us more about yourself?

I arrived in February from Challenge FC, an academy in Senegal in partnership with . I stayed there for 18 months and I am attentive to their results, and vice versa. My debut in U19 Nationals was thwarted by pubalgia that I had before arriving, and which lasted two and a half months. It was a difficult time but fortunately I had the support of the coach and my teammates.

How do you analyze your start to the season, and what are your objectives?

My adaptation is going very well, in R1, I expected to play this kind of match, with a good level in our group. Obviously, we are highly anticipated in all our away matches, and there is no easy match. I am firstly here to help the team and why not return to National 3, with the ambition of finishing top scorer at the end of the season.

Tell us about a typical week in Brest.

There are training sessions during the week, of course. Besides, I have language classes, Spanish and English, here at the center. The weekends are devoted to the match and resting in a house that I share with my Senegalese friends.

You regularly participate in sessions with club professionals, how are you experiencing this development?

It’s going well. I’m here to learn and it makes me happy to go and train there with them. All the players are friendly, they give me advice and I learn a lot from professionals, like Ludovic Ajorque or Abdallah Sima. It really makes me happy.

You were traveling to Lille, after having been to Saint-Étienne, is that encouraging?

Yes, I was very honored to be part of this group, but there are still things to do with my team. You have to work with humility to be able to one day join the A team and sign my first professional contract at Stade Brestois. This is my goal and I hope to achieve it, why not, at the end of the season.
