It's a mess at RC Lens! Between the cases of Fofana, Samba, Butez, Koffi, the other executives affected by a departure, or even wars of egos, what is really playing at this club which made people dream so much just 2 seasons ago?
“All those who follow RC Lens, from near or far, knew that this winter transfer window was going to be hectic. In reality, it's January 4 and there's already a pretty huge cacophony around the club at the moment. If we summarize correctly, after the big reorganization last summer, the club is in 7th place after 15 days, a rather correct result for targeting Europe. In public, we maintain the discourse of wanting to finish in a European place at the end of the season, while opening the door to several players to replenish the coffers. Why not ? But the commotion of recent days raises many questions…
In addition to the Seko Fofana episode, who left the club's Board of Directors to sign for Rennes, the departure of Brice Samba, starting goalkeeper and captain of the club, would obviously represent a very attractive financial opportunity. But what about the athlete? The arrival of Jean Butez was reassuring, at least a little, but there too, new disillusionment because he ultimately will not come. Just like Samba, who will not join Rennes, at least for the moment, for reasons that are still quite unclear. Is this really a squabble between a resentful Arnaud Pouille and a Joseph Oughourlian who values his pride?
And during this time, we learn that Hervé Koffi, goalkeeper number 2 but promoted to number 1 until further notice, is being pushed out. But what is Lens playing? So many questions with little to no answers. A situation which can undoubtedly recall the very dark hours of several clubs, all things considered: LOSC on the verge of decline in 2017-2018, ASSE, Bordeaux… For the most pessimistic, see Lens plummet and return to Ligue 2 in the near future is not crazy, and we can understand that.
Add to that the numerous repetitive absences due to injury, and you get a decidedly very, very curious season. We must leave the past in the past, but the time for a coherent and perfectly aligned direction seems quite distant. It's hard to determine who the bad guys and the good guys are in these stories, but we almost forget that RC Lens is a club that has to play Football matches every weekend! Because yes, Ligue 1 is back, this Sunday at Bollaert-Delelis, against TFC. This is indeed the main thing for now, and the players will have to show courage to do their job in such a nauseating context…”
