Several Spanish media announce that FC Barcelona now respects the 1:1 rule of financial fair play, required to register Dani Olmo, but still does not have the right to register the Spaniard.
The Dani Olmo soap opera is still not coming to an end. Since January 1, the Spanish midfielder like his teammate Pau Victor can no longer play with FC Barcelona after the Blaugrana club was unable to register them before December 31 for the second part of the season, not fulfilling the financial conditions of the La Liga regulations. According to the Spanish press, the situation has evolved in recent hours, but Barça still does not have the green light from the Spanish league.
No change according to La Liga
Catalan leaders reportedly sent new documents to La Liga and the Spanish Federation (RFEF) on Friday evening shortly before midnight. But Marca announces that the Spanish league maintains its firm position and assures that “nothing has changed”. La Liga considers that the documents sent are out of time and therefore do not allow Dani Olmo and Pau Victor to be registered. She believes that this would be a second registration in the same team and for the same competition, which is prohibited by the regulations.
Thanks to the 28 million euros collected on Friday from the sale of operating rights for VIP seats at the Camp Nou, FC Barcelona has nevertheless reached the famous 1:1 rule of Spanish financial fair play (it is not possible to invest only up to the amount of incoming income), required before the start of the new year for the Olmo file, and will be able to recruit other players in the winter transfer window, which began on Wednesday.
Legal recourse?
To resolve this long saga, Barça could go to court, because it considers that if it respects the 1:1 rule, there is no reason not to be able to register its two players. According to Mundo Deportivo, the Blaugrana president would like to hold a press conference to clarify the situation this Sunday or from Monday in Saudi Arabia, where Barça will arrive to play the Spanish Super Cup.
Friday, Dani Olmo's agent spoke to discuss the future, now more uncertain than ever, of his player. “We are not negotiating with any club. Dani is a Barcelona player and he wants to be a Barcelona player,” he assured.
