José Mourinho will have spent three seasons on the Real Madrid bench but retains a form of regret in hindsight. Coach of the Merengue club between 2010 and 2013, the Portuguese technician told Corriere dello Sport that he would have liked to stay longer.
'I wanted to return to Chelsea'
During his time at Madrid, the 'Special One' won three trophies, including La Liga in 2012. “Saying no to Florentino (Perez) remains one of my biggest regrets. He told me: 'Mou , don't leave now, you have done the hardest part and the best is coming…'”, shared José Mourinho about his discussion with the president of the Merengue club.
“I wanted to return to Chelsea after three difficult years in Spain,” said José Mourinho, who had already managed the Blues between 2004 and 2007. In 2013-2014, Carlo Ancelotti was appointed to the Real Madrid bench and the club lost the Champions League, the tenth in its history.
José Mourinho was fired by Chelsea in December 2015, a few months after their third Premier League title. He then had stints at Manchester United, Tottenham and AS Roma. Since the summer of 2023, José Mourinho has been at Fenerbahçe, second in the Turkish championship after 16 days, eight points behind Galatasaray.
