Chancel Mbemba, former pillar of the Olympique de Marseille defense, is having a complicated season in the shadow of the Marseille group. Placarded since the arrival of Roberto De Zerbi at the head of OM, the Congolese defender could well find a way out in the winter transfer window.
From indisputable holder to sidelined
Last season, Chancel Mbemba was a centerpiece of the Marseille rearguard. But the change of coach changed the situation. With De Zerbi, the 29-year-old no longer has his place in the eleven, and no minutes of play have been granted to him this season, whether in Ligue 1 or on the European scene. Although he received offers this summer, notably from Rennes and Saudi Arabia, the Congolese preferred to stay, hoping for an opportunity which never came.
Nantes in pole position?
FC Nantes, looking for an experienced central defender to strengthen its squad, is closely interested in Mbemba's profile. The experience and solidity of the captain of the DRC Leopards make him an ideal option for the Canaries. However, they will have to deal with competition from Rennes, who would have reactivated their interest in the player.
With these two clubs in the running, Mbemba could finally return to the field in January and turn the page on this frustrating first part of the season in Marseille. A decision should be made quickly, with the approach of a transfer window which promises to be decisive for its future.
Supporter of En Avant de Guingamp, the best of the Breton clubs, I prefer to meet Yannis Salibur, Cristophe Kerbrat or Jeremy Sorbon rather than Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi or Sergio Ramos.
