Jean-Pierre Papin, current coach of the Olympique de Marseille reserves, would be about to embark on a new challenge in Ligue 2.
Despite official support from the president Pablo Longoria after tensions with the OM training center, the former star striker should leave OM soon. Yesterday we learned in particular that his name was circulating around FC Martigues, where the club's critical sporting situation could well open the way for Papin to come. This morning new information, reported by La Provence, has further evolved the case.
Papin very close to FC Martigues
A few days ago, Martigues put an end to the adventure of Thierry Laureyonly six months after his arrival. After brilliantly reaching Ligue 2, the Provençal club is going through a catastrophic start to the season, with only one victory in its last 14 matches, occupying last place in the championship. To try to get things back on track, the club's management began prospecting to find a new coach.
And despite observing around ten profiles, that would be good, according to information from La Provence, the profile of Jean-Pierre Papinwho would have quickly gained the upper hand over the others and who would hold the rope to install himself at the head of the Martégale team. The Provençal daily nevertheless adds that, although the OM legend is very close to the Provençal Venice club and the deal has a good chance of succeeding, this movement is not yet completely finalized and that there are still a few details to be resolved.
For several months, the ex-Ballon d'Or has been doing appreciated work at the OM training center where he manages to deploy his experience and knowledge of football. His arrival at Martigues could therefore be a solution for the club to bring stability and a vision for the future to a team in great difficulty. Papin, well anchored in the region, knows local football perfectly and could quickly adapt to this challenge.
It remains to be seen whether the former French international will be up to the perilous Martega challenge that awaits him. One thing is now almost certain: the future of “JPP” will be written far from OM.
