Guest on the Jour de Foot show on Canal+ FootBruno Irles, Bordeaux coach, spoke about his start to the season with the Girondins de Bordeaux. He notably commented on his statements when he said he wanted to bring smiles back to the club.
« When I say 'give back smiles', there are employees who have left us. We hope that our results will mean that some people will be able to join us again. But there are others who stayed. We are in the fourth division, let's not forget that. In the fourth division, we do not have the right, we cannot financially have a Ligue 1 or Ligue 1 Champion structure, or a club touching on Europe as was the case with the Girondins de Bordeaux. So yes, we have to adapt and when I say 'give back smiles', it's for the supporters too. I wanted them to recognize themselves in my team, I always want that. I want them to accompany us and I am pleasantly surprised by the follow-up we get on weekends. This weekend, even if it's the Coupe de France, it's 20,000. In the championship we're almost at 10 – 12,000, it's huge, it's unheard of! We must, with our means of the fourth sporting division, use this history, we use these supporters to give back, to rebuild. That's my goal. »
