The drama experienced by Nabil Bentaleb in June 2024 shook LOSC, but the Algerian midfielder now seems on the road to recovery. Victim of cardio-respiratory arrest which plunged him into a coma, Bentaleb follows a strict recovery protocol under the supervision of a renowned Dutch cardiologist.
A multi-step process
According to Olivier Létang, president of LOSC, Bentaleb completed the first two phases of its recovery protocol and is currently starting the third. “Red flags or alerts occur in the first two phases”he explained, reassuring about the player’s favorable development. The objective is to resume collective training from January or mid-January 2025almost 7 months after the terrible incident.
An absolute priority: the health of the player
Létang insisted on total transparency adopted by the club in this sensitive matter. The French medical commission was informed from the start and one of its members is following the case closely. “The top priority was Nabil’s health”recalled the Lille leader. At the slightest unfavorable sign, the process will be immediately interrupted.
A dream for LOSC
Despite the difficulties, LOSC remains hopeful of seeing again Bentaleb treading the lawn of the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in his colors. During the club’s 80th anniversary celebrations at the end of November, Létang spoke of this dream that Nabil could one day play again with the LOSC jersey. No player with a pacemaker has yet played again in Francebut the Mastiffs want to be the pioneers.
