Paris SG has decided to leave the Parc des Princes as quickly as possible to build its own stadium. In a hurry, Nasser Al-Khelaifi toured Ile-de-France to find suitable land. An old racecourse in Essonne attracts his attention.
No more bluffing and talk, no more action and, above all, bulldozers. Paris SG wants to launch its large stadium project as quickly as possible and thus move from the Parc des Princes in the coming years. The Parisian club wants to have its own enclosure, with a minimum capacity of 60,000 seats. PSG plans to leave inner-city Paris for the Suburbs, having already received applications from several municipalities: Poissy, Aulnay-sous-Bois, Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines and Montigny-le-Bretonneux. The Parisians are studying all avenues, wanting to recover vast areas of land without experiencing legal complications. In this sense, a site in Essonne now catches their attention.
The future PSG stadium in Ris-Orangis?
The Parisian indicates in an article that it is the old Ris-Orangis racecourse, also called the Evry-Bondoufle racecourse. Located in the north of Essonne, the site has been closed to the public since 1996. This land is adjacent to a former closed LU factory, offering more than 100 hectares immediately available. PSG were won over and recently sent a delegation to inspect the premises. There was Victoriano Melero, general director of PSG, and Nicolas Ramillon, director in charge of the club’s real estate sector.
The vast, little-coveted space would make it possible to build a large new stadium as well as a range of shops. The old racecourse is located near the A6 motorway, the N104 and is close to the N7. In addition, Orly airport and Massy train station are also nearby. We could reach the future stadium by RER D. However, this location is further from Paris than initially hoped. PSG wanted a new stadium no more than 20 kilometers from the Parc des Princes. Here, we would be 30 kilometers from the Parisian enclosure and 50 kilometers from the Poissy training center. Enough to make Nasser Al-Khelaifi think, who would have targeted three other sites in the Paris region.
