As the winter transfer window approaches, AS Saint-Étienne is actively seeking to strengthen in attack. After a mixed first part of the season, neither Ibrahim Sissoko nor Lucas Stassin fully met expectations. The leaders of ASSE are therefore exploring market opportunities to find a center forward capable of carrying the team in the fight for maintenance. Among the avenues studied, the name of Cyriel Dessers, striker for Glasgow Rangers, is mentioned.
The Saint-Etienne leaders had bet on Lucas Stassin at the end of August, not hesitating to take out the checkbook with a record transfer for the Greens. If the Belgian opened his score against TFC, he shows that he is not yet ready to assume the role of official scorer in Ligue 1. In training, he is currently in competition with Ibrahima Sissoko. Following Ibrahima Wadji's new injury, ASSE could strengthen on the attacking front.
According to Le Républicain Sportif, ASSE appreciates center forward Cyriel Dessers. Aged 30, Dessers is a center forward of Nigerian origin who benefits from solid European experience. Trained in Belgium, he played for clubs like Genk, Utrecht, or Feyenoord, he stood out for his ability to score. Solid, he presents a complete profile which would provide references to an overdue position. If the Saint-Etienne leaders are turning more towards young players, they have shown that they can change their tune with the arrivals of Yunis Abdelhamid and Pierre Cornud.
Desserts at ASSE?
Cyriel Dessers' current situation at Rangers is delicate. Relegated to the bench since the emergence of Moroccan Hamza Igamane, Dessers could be tempted to relaunch his career elsewhere. Under contract until May 2027, its market value is estimated at around 4 million euros. A significant amount for ASSE, but not insurmountable if the Greens manage to negotiate a loan with a purchase option.
His experience in various championships (Belgium, Netherlands, Scotland) makes him an interesting profile for ASSE. He could bring leadership and finishing to an offensive sector lacking effective solutions. For ASSE, recruiting an attacker would be a strong signal sent and proof of the club's desire to leave the red zone. Cyriel Dessers has 145 goals in 360 matches.
It remains to be seen whether the interest is concrete on the part of the Saint-Etienne club. For our part, we are confirmed that the possibility of recruiting a striker this winter is clearly an option. Several players have already been surveyed in recent weeks.
