Like his team, Samuel Gigot had a complicated evening this Monday during the clash of the 16th day of Serie A between Lazio and Inter. The defender on loan from OM to the Roman club had a series of problems after coming into play by causing a penalty then leaving at half-time during the Romans' defeat at home (0-6).
There are evenings like that… Substitute at the kick-off of the clash against Inter Milan this Monday in Serie A, Samuel Gigot thought he saw his luck change when the Lazio coach invited him to come into play after Mario Gila's injury in the 28th minute. In a competitive match, the player on loan from OM (with an option to buy) would finally be able to show what he was capable of… But woes.
Only seven minutes after his appearance on the pitch, the central defender committed a handball in his area during an aerial duel. Sent to the ground on this action, the former Olympian tried to dive to clear the ball but, although he took the ball, he was also hit in the head by the tip of Hakan Çalhanoglu's foot. A rescue ultimately useless since the referee returned to the Frenchman's initial hand.
Gigot replaced at half-time
The penalty whistled after the intervention of the video and while he was receiving treatment was quietly scored by… Hakan Çalhanoglu, executioner of the defender on the action and Roman ambitions this Monday. Four minutes and a failed defensive retreat later, Federico Dimarco scored the break goal. In the space of a few moments, Lazio lost everything. And Samuel Gigot seemed to drag his leg. Returning to the locker room two goals late, the central defender ultimately never returned.
At the start of the second half, Samuel Gigot gave way to Manuel Lazzari. In total and taking into account the additional time added, the former OM player will have spent 22 minutes on the pitch. On arrival, therefore, Samuel Gigot and more generally the entire Laziale team went through hell with six goals conceded.
