Former Cameroonian international Yvan Neyou, former ASSE midfielder, shines in Spain with Leganés. After leaving ASSE during the descent to Ligue 2, Neyou was loaned to the Spanish team, who quickly wanted to keep him after a successful season. Since then, he has established himself as a pillar of the midfield in a Leganés on the rise. After a deserved promotion, the club is currently doing well in La Liga.

This weekend, Leganés achieved the feat by beating FC Barcelona at home, a historic victory against the championship leader. This success was all the more symbolic for Neyou, who showed himself to be solid and determined in midfield, offering his team a remarkable defensive presence. Although it was crucial to this success, a controversial action tarnished the evening.

Neyou victim of racist insults

While he was late for an action, Neyou made a tackle on Barça's young prodigy, Lamine Yamal. Although the latter twisted his ankle, he was eventually able to return to play. However, this intervention was perceived as dangerous and could have caused a more serious injury to the young player.

Neyou's tackle was quickly singled out by some Barcelona supporters, who reacted disproportionately on social networks. Indeed, racist insults were addressed to the Cameroonian, an unacceptable situation that no player, whether on or off the field, should have to endure. These acts of hatred, widespread on Instagram, once again serve as a reminder of the need to fight racism in sport.

Despite this deplorable aggression, Yvan Neyou and his Leganés team won this sensational meeting. The club is currently 15th in La Liga, four points ahead of the relegation zone, and continues to remain in the Spanish elite.

We express our support for Yvan Neyou, victim of an intolerable act, and hope that such situations will become increasingly rare in the world of football.
