Wolverhampton coach Gary O'Neil has announced that Nelson Semedo will now wear the captain's armband in place of Mario Lemina. The latter had a violent clash with an opponent following Wolves' defeat against West Ham last Monday.
A bout of blood that doesn't go away. Monday, Mario Lemina (31) completely came out of his game at the end of West Ham-Wolverhampton (2-1), for the 15th day of the Premier League.
Difficult to control after his team's new defeat, the Gabonese attacked opponents (he ended up on the ground with Jarrod Bowen), one of his teammates and a member of his own team's staff. A sequence that the English club enjoyed little, since the Wolves decided to remove the captain's armband from the former OM and Nice player.
“For now, we think it's best for Nelson to lead this group.”
“Mario will continue to play an important role for us,” commented his coach Gary O'Neil on Friday at a press conference, when formalizing the transfer of the captaincy to Nelson Semedo. “He will continue to be one of those experienced players who lead the team, but for now we feel it is better to have Nelson lead this group.”
The Wolves currently occupy 19th place in the Premier League, and remain on three consecutive losses in the Championship before hosting Ipswich (18th) this Saturday afternoon (4 p.m.).
